If I purchase a 5-year subscription, what do I have to do when my subscription ends to keep using the Quagensia Desktop Application, since the subscription doesn’t auto-renew?
The process is the same as paying for the 5-year subscription the first time. When you pay, you will receive an email with a new license key for your new subscription. Just enter the new license key into the Quagensia Desktop Application the same way you did the first time you paid for a 5-year subscription. When you buy a new subscription after your 5-year subscription expires, remember that the subscription you are buying is completely independent from the first subscription, which is why you will receive a new license key. This means that you should wait until your old 5-year subscription expires before paying for a new one, because the moment you pay, the clock starts on your new 5-year subscription. So, to avoid double paying for the time during which your old and new subscriptions overlap, we recommend paying for a new 5-year subscription the first day after the end of your 5-year subscription.
On how many machines can I use one Quagensia Desktop Application license?
You can use each license for a given edition of the Quagensia Desktop Application on only one machine at once. You can install Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition on as many machines as you would like, and easily move your paid Quagensia Desktop Application license between machines as many times as you would like to by deactivating it on one machine then activating it on another, but you can only use one Quagensia Desktop Application paid license on a single machine at a time. For example, if you have a non-mobile workstation for work and a laptop for vacation, you can switch your single-machine license from the non-mobile workstation to the laptop before your vacation and switch it back again after your vacation, but you cannot use Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition on two machines at the same time if you have paid for only one license. If you don’t have access to the machine with the activated license because your hard drive crashed, your computer was stolen, or due to any other reason, contact us so that we can make a change to your license on the license server, allowing you to activate your license on the machine to which you have access. This service is limited to ten times per year per license.
Do I need to buy a Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition license for each machine on which I am using trading strategies inside of NinjaTrader® or TradeStation® that I created with Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition?
No. You can use NinjaTrader® strategies that do not use the “Control Panels” feature and all TradeStation® strategies on an unlimited number of machines. Furthermore, you can use NinjaTrader® strategies that use the Quagensia N Edition “Control Panels” feature, which allows your strategy to add control panels of buttons, check boxes, and text boxes to a NinjaTrader® chart on which it is applied, on up to 2 machines per paid Quagensia N Edition license when using the NinjaTrader Machine ID-based licensing type, and if you are using NinjaTrader® version 8.1.6.2 or higher you can use the email-based licensing type, which works on machines on which you are logged into NinjaTrader® using a specific NinjaTrader® user account, and those machines can change from day-to-day without needing help from us to switch machines. You can switch between email-based and NinjaTrader Machine ID-based licensing up to ten times per year per paid Quagensia N Edition license.
How can I get the licenses required to use Quagensia N Edition’s “Control Panels” feature to add control panels of buttons, check boxes, and text boxes to the NinjaTrader® charts on which my NinjaTrader® strategies are applied?
Only users who either 1) have a valid unexpired free trial of Quagensia N Edition or 2) have a paid license for the Quagensia N Edition Runtime for the email address of their NinjaTrader® user account or their up to two NinjaTrader® Machine IDs can use the Quagensia N Edition Control Panels features like adding button controls, check box controls, and text box controls to a NinjaTrader® chart.
A Quagensia N Edition free trial license is included for free during your free trial period, and under normal circumstances should be automatically generated without you needing to contact us to request it (although we can manually set you up with a free trial license if the automatic free trial license generation does not seem to be working for you).
If you decide to purchase a subscription to Quagensia N Edition you simply need to respond to an email sent to you from support [at] quagensia [dot] com with either the exact (case-sensitive) email address of your NinjaTrader® user account or your one or two NinjaTrader® Machine IDs so that we can manually change the appropriate additional license to have an end date that is synced up with the end date of your Quagensia N Edition subscription, then wait for email confirmation that your email address or machines’ NinjaTrader® Machine IDs are now licensed to use the Quagensia N Edition Runtime, then close NinjaTrader® if it is currently open and reopen it to cause your Quagensia N Edition Runtime license status to refresh inside of NinjaTrader® so that you can use the Quagensia N Edition control panels features from inside of NinjaTrader® on the machine.
You can find your NinjaTrader® Machine IDs from within NinjaTrader®’s “Help” main menu on each machine by selecting the “Help” main menu’s “About…” menu item. When you select this menu item, the “About NinjaTrader” window will open. Instead of typing out a NinjaTrader® Machine ID by hand in your email, you can copy it to the clipboard from the “About NinjaTrader” window and paste it into your email by selecting the NinjaTrader® Machine ID in the “About NinjaTrader” window the way you normally select text, then copying it to the clipboard by either pressing the Control and C keys at the same time or by right clicking on the selected text and selecting the “Copy” menu item from the context menu that appears, then pasting it into your email by placing your cursor at a location in the body of your email and either pressing the Control and V keys at the same time or right clicking on the location and selecting the “Paste” menu item from the context menu that appears.
You can expect to hear back from us within one U.S. trading day (weekends and U.S. market holidays not included) at the longest, but most likely you will hear back from us within a few hours if we receive your email during normal business hours (in the Chicago time zone).
We highly recommend that if you choose to use NinjaTrader® Machine IDs instead of your email address for your Quagensia N Edition Runtime license(s) that you request two Quagensia N Edition Runtime licenses for two separate NinjaTrader® Machine IDs, and that you have both of the machines (or virtual machines) up to date and ready for trading, on different internet connections, and not hosted with the same virtual private server (VPS) provider in the event that your main trading machine or its internet connection has any issues, including the scenario explained further down in the text below, i.e. the scenario of the NinjaTrader® Machine ID of your main virtual machine changing due to your virtual private server provider updating your virtual machine or other scenarios that will cause the NinjaTrader® vendor licensing system to see your virtual machine as a new machine that is not yet licensed to use the Quagensia N Edition Runtime.
Important Information About NinjaTrader® Machine IDs and Virtual Machines (which you can skip entirely if you are using your email address instead of your NinjaTrader® Machine IDs for the Quagensia N Edition Runtime license or only use NinjaTrader® on physical machines, such as laptops and workstations):
Note that each of your NinjaTrader® Machine IDs is associated with a single physical machine, such as a laptop or workstation, or a single “virtual machine”, such as the virtual machines that are used by virtual private server (VPS) providers that some NinjaTrader® users use to run NinjaTrader® in the cloud.
If you need to use NinjaTrader® on a new physical machine, if your VPS provider makes changes to your virtual machine running on their servers such that the NinjaTrader® vendor licensing system sees your virtual machine as a new machine, or if you are using a virtual machine on your own Windows or MacOS machine and changes were made to the virtual machine that makes the NinjaTrader® vendor licensing system see your virtual machine as a new machine, you will need to email support [at] quagensia [dot] com again, from the same email account you used to purchase Quagensia N Edition from our online store to make the process as quick and uncomplicated as possible, to request a replacement Quagensia N Edition Runtime license for the new NinjaTrader® Machine ID. In your email, please provide the NinjaTrader® Machine ID whose Quagensia N Edition Runtime license you would like us to replace with the new Quagensia N Edition Runtime license for the new NinjaTrader® Machine ID, then wait to hear back from us within one U.S. trading day (weekends and U.S. market holidays not included).
Note that we limit the number of times each user is allowed to switch NinjaTrader® Machine IDs to 20 times per year per paid Quagensia N Edition license (which averages out to 10 times per year per machine running NinjaTrader® if you are using the Quagensia N Edition “Control Panels” feature in NinjaTrader® on two machines at the same time) to prevent fraud and abuse. This limit is set to a very high number so that it would be exceedingly unlikely for a user to run into this limit, unless the user is using a virtual machine, rather than a physical machine, that changes its NinjaTrader® Machine ID frequently. Our recommendation is that if you get to the point where you’ve used up quite a few NinjaTrader® Machine ID switches, for instance if you are already half way to the yearly limit, that you ask for help and advice in our Discord community about avoiding these NinjaTrader® Machine ID changes due to virtual machine changes. You are likely to get good advice on how to solve this problem in our Discord community, because many NinjaTrader® vendors, such as third-party NinjaTrader® indicator vendors and third-party NinjaTrader® add-on vendors, use the NinjaTrader® vendor licensing system like we do, and many of our users will have experiences with solving this problem either by 1) changing the settings on their virtual machine hosted by a virtual private server provider, 2) switching from a virtual private server provider that frequently has this problem to a virtual private server provider that rarely has this problem, or 3) configuring a self-hosted virtual machine that is running on your own Windows or MacOS machine to make this problem occur much less frequently. As a reminder, all of these types of issues can also be avoided if you use your email address instead of your NinjaTrader® Machine IDs for the Quagensia N Edition Runtime license.
If I purchase a Quagensia N Edition subscription, can I switch to a Quagensia T Edition subscription for free or do I have to pay for a Quagensia T Edition subscription separately?
If you purchase a non-renewing 5-year subscription to Quagensia N Edition, you can switch to a non-renewing 5-year subscription to Quagensia T Edition without having to pay for it separately, and you can switch back to a non-renewing 5-year subscription to Quagensia N Edition again. You can do up to 10 total cost-free switches between editions, which is 5 round trips from one edition to another edition and back again, during a single 5-year subscription term.
How can I switch between editions for free?
If you still have remaining cost-free edition switches in your subscription term, please deactivate your current license on all computers on which it is activated then email support requesting a cost-free edition switch. Please include the first 16 non-dash characters of your license key (19 characters including dashes) and email the request from the same email that you used to pay for your subscription. If you do not have access to this email anymore, please call support from the phone number used when you purchased the subscription and have your license key available. If you do not have access to the email or phone number used when you purchased your subscription, please email support for help and further instructions. If you are not able to deactivate your current license on all machines on which it is activated, please email support for help and further instructions.
Does my license for Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition cover future versions or editions of Quagensia that output trading strategies for new versions of NinjaTrader® or TradeStation® like a theoretical “NinjaTrader® 9” or “TradeStation® 11”, for instance?
Yes. Either your license for Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition will also work for any new version or edition of the Quagensia Desktop Application that we choose to make for any new version of NinjaTrader® or TradeStation®, or we will generate a new license with the same end date as your current license for Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition and send its license key to you free of charge.
What kind of support is included with a valid paid license?
This software is a self-help product. When you purchase a license for a subscription to Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition you are paying only for the right to use it as-is to the best of your ability, not for individualized help with using it, including but not limited to using the software to build a particular Quagensia Algo or individualized help with using, debugging, or troubleshooting your trading algorithms that you generated using the software when used from within a trading platform. The support to which paid users are entitled is highly limited and is restricted to installation, licensing, and payment issues. If you need help building your strategy using the software, using it in a trading platform, or debugging or troubleshooting issues with your strategy, you will likely have to hire a third-party consultant to help you.
The highly limited support we offer is restricted to email and our Discord community for all paid license holders. We do not offer phone support. Users without a valid paid license may ask questions in our Discord community but are not entitled to a response directly from Quagensia and are not entitled to email support. All users also have access to our online help documentation.
The support to which paid users are entitled specifically excludes the following:
- Help with determining the logic for a specific Quagensia Algo, building a specific Quagensia Algo, and writing or understanding any computer code, including writing or understanding computer code written in programming languages or for APIs that is generated from Quagensia Algos;
- Help with using the trading platforms whose computer code can be generated from a Quagensia Algo;
- Help with using algorithmic trading strategies whose code was generated from a Quagensia Algo, including help with determining why an algorithmic trading strategy is not behaving in a way within the trading platform as the logic of the Quagensia Algo, as displayed within Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition, may suggest to some users;
- Help with debugging or troubleshooting algorithmic trading strategies whose code was generated from a Quagensia Algo whether they are run in a live trading environment, simulated environment, backtesting environment, or any other environment, and irrespective of whether or not you believe or are certain that the reason for any undesirable or unexpected behavior or result is due to a bug or weakness of Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition or the Quagensia Algos built into Quagensia N Edition or Quagensia T Edition rather than a bug or weakness in the way the author of the Quagensia Algo built the logic, a bug or weakness in the trading platform itself, or any other reason for the undesirable or unexpected behavior or result;
- Help with live trading issues of any kind;
Many of these types of issues can usually be resolved by submitting a question to the trading platform’s support forum. If you have questions about topics not covered by Quagensia support, there are excellent forums in which you can get answers to your questions.
We will not provide support to a paid user on behalf of a user without a valid paid license. We only support paid users asking questions on behalf of themselves.
We specifically provide no support for using code generated from a Quagensia Algo if some or all of the code is hidden or obfuscated in any way, including but not limited to code that is hidden or obfuscated in a “.dll” file, with the exception of any transformation done automatically by the trading platform to the unaltered, unobfuscated, plain text code output generated from a Quagensia Algo when the code is compiled by the trading platform as a necessary step for the code to be used from within the trading platform.
All support provided by us is provided on an “as is” basis without any warranty, including any warranty on our support response times and any warranty that a particular support query will be answered or resolved to an extent that you find satisfactory. No guarantee is made that a particular problem will be solved. If the resolution of a problem requires the release of a new version of the software, you acknowledge and agree that the release date and the functionality of the newly released version shall be at the sole discretion of the company.
What do I do if I have problems purchasing a license or if I do not receive its license key in an email after my purchase?
If you don’t receive an email with the license key after giving it an hour and then checking your spam folder for the license email, just call or email us and we will make sure you get your license ASAP. If you have problems with our reseller’s online store regarding the acceptance of a payment, please contact them.
