How Can I Create Quagensia-Enhanced Content?

The Basics of Creating Quagensia-Enhanced Content

Read What Types of Quagensia-Enhanced Content Should I Create? to ensure you make Quagensia®-enhanced content that traders want, and read How Can I Promote My Quagensia-Enhanced Content? to increase the chances that its promotion will be successful. Then, read this page to learn the mechanics of creating Quagensia-enhanced content.

Deleting Your Algo’s Change History to Clean It Up Before Publication

Before you share a Quagensia Algo with others, it is a good idea to clean it up by clicking the “Delete This Algo’s Change History” menu item, which is under the “Quagensia Portal” main menu, while the Quagensia Algo is opened in a tab and that tab is selected.

“Delete This Algo’s Change History” is a feature meant for those who want to share their Quagensia Algos with others. It deletes all of the work that you did on a Quagensia Algo that didn’t end up making it into the final version of the algo that you wish to share. In other words, this feature deletes an algo file’s “memory” of all your past changes made to the algo that are not visible on the algo’s workspace after expanding all contracted items.

If you want to share an algo as it appears on the screen, and you want it to contain no other information about the steps you took to create the algo, then click that menu item to clear out all of your algo’s data except that which would be visible on the screen after expanding all contracted items.

More information about why Quagensia Algo files maintain some of their past states:

In order to save you time while you build a Quagensia Algo, a Quagensia Algo file retains some of the past changes you made to the algo file so that when you do some work, then change your mind, then change your mind back again, your algo file will attempt to show you your initial work instead of forcing you to enter all the data again.

For instance, if you created a condition such as “Value A is Between Value B and Value C”, then changed your mind and changed the condition to become “Value A is Equal to Value B”, the work you did for “Value C” is hidden, but isn’t deleted. That way, if you later change your mind again and choose the “Is Between” comparison operator once again, then all of the work you did for “Value C” will be placed into “Value C” again.

This feature of Quagensia saves algo creators time, but if you want to share your algo with others but want to make sure that they can’t see any of the work that you did on your algo that ended up not being part of the algo you want other people to see, clicking on “Delete This Algo’s Change History” will clear out all data that is not visible on the algo’s workspace after expanding all contracted items.

Retrieving Your Quagensia Algo File From the Folder Where It Was Saved

Quagensia Algos are saved to your “My Algos” folder by default. This is a folder on your computer, your network, or a cloud drive based on your installation’s “Quagensia User Folder’s Parent Folder” setting on the “Essential Options” tab of the Options window.

To open your “My Algos” folder, right click the “My Algos” folder in the “Algo Explorer” pane to the left of the main area of the application and click the “Open Folder” context menu item in the context menu that appears. When you do this, the “My Algos” folder will open in either “File Explorer” or “Windows Explorer” as determined by your version of Microsoft Windows.

From there, you can copy or zip up the physical Quagensia Algo file of interest or you can navigate to any sub-folder of the “My Algos” folder if your Quagensia Algo file is not directly in the “My Algos” directory.

If you saved the Quagensia Algo file with one name but entered a different name in the “Strategy Name” or “Function Name” text box that is the top-most editable field of an algo in the Algo Editor and want to know the file path of the algo in an active tab of the Quagensia Desktop Application, there are three quick ways to determine this. First, toward the bottom of the same “Strategy Summary” or “Function Summary” section that holds the “Strategy Name” or “Function Name” text box there is a “File Path” text box showing the full file path of your Quagensia Algo file on disk. Second, you can place your mouse pointer over the gear icon of the tab just above the Algo Editor’s user interface and a tooltip will appear that shows the file path. Third, you can place your mouse pointer over the icon to the left of the name of the algo in the “Algo Explorer” and a tooltip will appear that shows the file path.

Zipping Up a Quagensia Algo File You Created

If you are sharing a Quagensia Algo file on the internet, you are likely better off zipping up the Quagensia Algo file in a zip file and uploading the zip file to the internet rather than uploading the raw Quagensia Algo file for two reasons. First, most file upload forms of most websites only allow the uploading of files with certain popular file types, and the file extensions of Quagensia Algo files are almost certainly not going to be on the lists of acceptable file extensions. Second, even if you can upload a Quagensia Algo file or any other file with a rarer file extension, your end users’ web browser, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, and your end users’ anti-virus software are more likely to flag a raw Quagensia Algo file as a possible threat than a Quagensia Algo file that is zipped up in a zip file. Note that if you put a simple password on the zip file the odds of your zip file being flagged as a potential threat go down further.

To zip up a Quagensia Algo file, follow the instructions in the previous section to open the parent directory of the Quagensia Algo file, then right click on the Quagensia Algo file, then place your mouse over the “Send To” context menu item in the context menu that appears, then click the “Compressed (zipped) folder” context menu item to create a zip file that will appear in the same sub-directory as the Quagensia Algo file. Note that if you do not see a “Send To” context menu item in the context menu that appears when you right click on the Quagensia Algo file, click the “Show more options” item in the context menu to see more options, including the “Send To” context menu item.

Recording Screen Video of Your Use of the Quagensia Desktop Application

As described on the What Types of Quagensia-Enhanced Content Should I Create? web page, traders like video content and we like videos that are screen recordings of content creators either making small changes to a Quagensia Strategy or building a Quagensia Strategy from start to finish.

If you’ve never made a screen recording of your use of an application before, good news: it is very easy to do and you can even do it for free.

OBS Studio, which you can download from obsproject.com, is a free screen recorder that is highly regarded and has a very large feature set. Watch the quick YouTube video titled How to Record your Computer Screen & Webcam by YouTuber Kevin Stratvert to see how quick and easy it is to use this free program.

If you have a budget, you could use Camtasia® from Techsmith. We use Camtasia® to make screen recordings of our use of the Quagensia Desktop Application and to create and edit videos from the recordings, and we find it surprisingly easy to use.

Creating an Image of a Quagensia Algo File You Created

Creating an image of a Quagensia Algo file you created that includes the complete algo, not just the part of the algo that is visible on your monitor, is easy and can be done directly from within the Quagensia Desktop Application by following these steps:

  1. First, open your Quagensia Algo in a tab in the Quagensia Desktop Application.
  2. With this tab selected, open the “Export Algo as Image” window by either clicking on the “Export Algo As Image” toolbar button directly to the left of the “Print” toolbar button or by clicking on the “Export Algo As Image” menu item directly above the “Print” menu item in the main menu’s “File” menu.
  3. From within the “Export Algo As Image” window that appears, you can export an image of the selected algo to an image file on disk or to an image on the clipboard. You can then post these images to your website or social media channels, pages, and feeds, either exactly as they are exported or after editing the images in any image editing application.

Cutting Up and Editing an Image of a Quagensia Algo File You Created

The image of your algo produced by the Quagensia Desktop Application’s “Export Algo as Image” window includes the complete algo, not just the part of the algo that is visible on your monitor. You may want to create smaller images containing only certain parts of your algo and you may want to draw on or label parts of these images to point out what is most important. You can cut up and edit one of these large images using one of the many free or cheap image editing applications on the market.

Free image editing applications include:

  1. Microsoft Paint, which is built into every version of Microsoft Windows on which we support the Quagensia Desktop Application. Microsoft now sometimes refers to this product as “Classic Microsoft Paint” to differentiate it from Microsoft Paint 3D, which is also free and is probably already built into your version of Microsoft Windows.
  2. GIMP, which you can download from gimp.org. GIMP can do a lot more than Classic Microsoft Paint, but this can also make it harder to use. If you want to mark up your edited images in ways that Classic Microsoft Paint cannot, GIMP is a great free choice.
  3. Plus many more that you could find by searching for “free image editing software” on Google or Bing.

Paid image editing applications include:

  1. Snagit® from Techsmith®, which is not only an image editor but also shines specifically for screen capture and even screen recording. Note that SnagIt® is not a replacement for the higher-end screen recording and video editing capabilities of the more expensive Camtasia® from Techsmith.
  2. Plus many more that you could find by searching for “image editing software” on Google or Bing.

Since the “Export Algo as Image” window allows you to export an image of the selected algo to either an image file on disk or to an image on the clipboard, to save time you can copy an image of the algo to the clipboard then paste it directly into your image editing application.

Taking Screenshots of the Quagensia Desktop Application

To take a screenshot of an open Quagensia Desktop Application and put it on the clipboard, first click anywhere on the Quagensia Desktop Application to ensure that it is the active application, then press the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard while holding the “Alt” key down. To get this screenshot from the clipboard into an image editing application, open the image editing application and paste the screenshot from the clipboard by either pressing the “V” key while holding the “Ctrl” key down, by right clicking anywhere on the canvas of the image editing application and clicking the “Paste” context menu item from the context menu that appears, or by clicking the image editing application’s “Paste” toolbar button or “Paste” menu item if such a toolbar button or menu item exists.

Taking Screenshots of All of Your Screens At Once (Without SnagIt® or a Similar Program Installed and Running)

To take a screenshot of all of your screens at once whether or not the Quagensia Desktop Application is present on a given screen, press the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard.

Taking Screenshots of All of Your Screens At Once (With SnagIt® or a Similar Program Installed and Running)

To take a screenshot of all of your screens at once whether or not the Quagensia Desktop Application is present on a given screen, press the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard. Then, assuming you have Snagit® from Techsmith® or another screen capture program installed and running in the background, pressing the “Print Screen” key will open up the screen capture program and give you multiple screen capture options, and this screen capture program should also take care of pasting the screenshot into an image editing window of the screen capture program.
