All editions of the Quagensia® Desktop Application use a licensing system to determine whether or not a user has a valid paid subscription to that edition of Quagensia.
If a user has time remaining on either a valid paid subscription or a valid free trial for an edition of Quagensia, then that user can use either all or many features of that edition of Quagensia. If a user has neither of these things, then all essential features of that edition of Quagensia are disabled except for the ability to enter a valid license key and do other license-related tasks.
When you first activate a paid subscription to an edition of Quagensia, a copy of your official license, which exists only on a license server and which includes the end date of your paid subscription, is downloaded to your computer.
In order to allow you to work offline, and to ensure that Quagensia can open more quickly, most of the time Quagensia only checks your computer’s local copy of the official license for a paid subscription to determine which features of your edition of Quagensia you are allowed to use.
Every so often, Quagensia attempts to automatically re-download a copy of your official license for a paid subscription to your edition of Quagensia.
If Quagensia is unable to connect to the license server for too long of a period of time, the “Refresh Your Quagensia License From The License Server” window will automatically appear, at which point you will be required to press a button to connect to the license server over the internet and re-download your official license if you wish to continue to be able to use all of the features of your edition of Quagensia.
If you want to refresh your license manually without being prompted by Quagensia, you can open the “Refresh Your Quagensia License From The License Server” window by clicking on the “Refresh Your Quagensia License From The License Server…” menu item located in the main menu’s “Help” menu and press a button to do so.
Refreshing your Quagensia license from the license server by clicking a button on the “Refresh Your Quagensia License From The License Server” window simply downloads the current official copy of your license from the license server and replaces the out of date copy of the official license that was downloaded sometime in the past, and then checks the downloaded license to determine which features of your edition of Quagensia you are allowed to use.
Once a paid Quagensia license is refreshed either automatically by Quagensia or manually from the “Refresh Your Quagensia License From The License Server” window, you will be able to work offline until the next time that Quagensia requires the license to be refreshed from from the license server.
If you are planning to be offline for awhile, it is a good idea to do this preemptively because doing this allows you to work offline for the maximum allowable amount of time without being required to go online and refresh your license from the license server, because doing this extends the required license refresh date as far into the future as your edition of Quagensia allows.
Another reason to refresh your license manually without being prompted by Quagensia is if your paid subscription was renewed, which extends the end date of your paid subscription, but the cached copy of your Quagensia license has an outdated paid subscription end date and you want Quagensia to be made aware of your real paid subscription end date that was set to a date further into the future when your paid subscription was renewed.
You can accomplish all license-oriented tasks from any of the following three places within the Quagensia Desktop Application: the Start Page tab, the “Help” main menu, and the “About Quagensia” window.
