Managing Multiple Tabs and Tab Groups

The Quagensia® Desktop Application has a multi-tab, multi-tab group user interface.

Quagensia has two kinds of tabs: the Start Page tab and “algo tabs”.

The Start Page tab is always open, and there is only one of them. It has links to the most useful Quagensia resources on the web.

Algo tabs allow you to view and edit Quagensia Algos. You can open up as many algo tabs as you want in the initial “tab group” in which the Start Page is open, but you also have the ability to create seven more tab groups in up to four columns and two rows.

For instance, if you have two very large wide screen monitors side by side, or eight monitors in four rows and two columns, or some other configuration of monitors that have a lot of space, you can expand the Quagensia Desktop Application’s main window to span some or all of your monitors, and create four columns and two rows of tab groups, with many algo tabs in each of the eight tab groups, and the Start Page’s tab in your preferred tab group.

You can create and remove columns of tab groups and a second row of tab groups, move tabs between tab groups, move tabs to the left, right, beginning, or end of their current tab group, close the current algo tab, close all algo tabs except the current one in all tab groups or the current tab group, or close all algo tabs in a tab group or in all tab groups.

To manage multiple tabs and tab groups, click on the icon to the right of the label in any tab’s tab header, then click on a menu item in the context menu that appears. Note that the list of menu items that appear are highly dependent on the kind of tab you click on, how many algo tabs are in its tab group, the number of tab groups open, and more.

The use of multiple tab groups enhances the Quagensia experience.

Examples of using multiple tab groups to accomplish more with Quagensia include:

  1. You can copy and paste entire multiple actions, a single action, or a single expression between Quagensia Algos. All input parameters and internal variables referenced by the copied actions and expressions are copied over as well. This allows you to use the Algo Explorer or Search window to find trading logic in an algo from Quagensia or one of your own algos, and copy and paste it from the source algo into one of your own algos. You can accomplish this without using multiple tab groups, but being able to see and scroll through the source algo and the destination algo simultaneously makes copying trading logic between algos especially quick and easy.
  2. To help you learn how to use Quagensia, you can open an algo that you want to learn how to make in a tab group to the right of the main tab group, then create a new algo in the main tab group, and attempt to recreate the algo on the right without copying and pasting the logic from the algo on the right. If you get frustrated or impatient, you can copy and paste the remaining logic from the algo on the right into your new algo.
  3. Compare two versions of one of your algos side by side to determine the differences in the trading logic. Hint: Every time you generate an algo’s code, a copy of the Quagensia Algo file is saved to a folder with the same parent folder as the folder to which the generated code is saved.
  4. Function authors can open up a Quagensia Function in one tab group, and use the Quagensia Function in a Quagensia Strategy or other Quagensia Function in another tab group to quickly go back and forth between building the function’s logic and using the function. Note that there is a real-time link between Quagensia Functions that are loaded into algo tabs that are either visible or have been visible since you have opened up the current Quagensia instance, so if you add an input parameter to a Quagensia Function in one tab group and save it, the input parameter will automatically be added to all the locations where it is used in all the other algos in all the other algo tabs that currently have a live link to the Quagensia Function.

Each tab group displays a selected tab, but it is the selected tab of the selected tab group that the application considers the “selected tab”.

Regardless of the number of tabs and tab groups that are open in an instance of Quagensia, there will be only one selected tab. Although each tab group that has more than one tab has its own selected tab, it is the selected tab of the selected tab group that is truly considered “selected” by the application. For instance, if you have eight tab groups open and each of the tab groups has an algo tab selected, but you are building an algo in the algo tab in the tab group in the third column of the second row of tab groups, then it is this algo whose code will be generated with you press the “Generate Code” button.

You can determine which tab in which tab group is selected because it will have an icon to the right of the label of the tab’s tab header. Whenever you click on an algo’s workspace, the Start Page, or any tab header of a tab that doesn’t have this icon, you will see the icon disappear from the previously selected tab and appear on the tab on which you clicked.

Whenever you open Quagensia, it will load the last set of tabs and tab groups, select the last selected tab in each tab group, and select the last selected tab group to restore the Quagensia Desktop Application’s tabs and tab groups to the way they were when you last closed Quagensia.

Non-Selected Algo Tabs Not Selected Since Opening Quagensia

If you open Quagensia and the algo tabs from your last session open in a tab group, only one will be selected in that tab group. The others are unselected, and display a little triangle in their upper left corner.

The triangle indicates that you have not selected that algo file’s tab since you’ve opened Quagensia.

Whenever you click on a tab with a little triangle in the upper left corner, or such a tab gets selected for another reason, the triangle will go away for the remainder of the time you have the application open.
